The Power of Storytelling and Uplifting Voices that Matter

The Power of Storytelling and Uplifting Voices that Matter

At Smoking Gun Coffee, we believe in the power of stories to inspire change. We've see this everday in our Chilliwack cafe as members of the community use our space to connect and share their stories.

That’s why we’re proud to announce our sponsorship of the Chilliwack Independent Film Festival this year. We are honored to support the screening of Sugarcane, a deeply impactful documentary about residential schools and the lasting effects on Indigenous communities.

The Chilliwack Independent Film Festival (CIFF) has always been a celebration of diverse voices and storytelling. This year, Sugarcane stands out as a crucial film that sheds light on a dark chapter of history, a history that is important to acknowledge and understand. Directed with sensitivity and a commitment to truth, Sugarcane invites viewers to witness and reflect on stories that are rarely told but are essential to reconciliation and healing.

Sponsoring this documentary aligns with our mission to uplift voices that matter. As a coffee company rooted in our community, we are committed to taking meaningful steps to engage with and support causes that promote understanding, cultural awareness, and justice.

We invite you to join us at the Chilliwack Independent Film Festival to experience Sugarcane for yourself. Engage in conversation, learn from the voices of survivors and filmmakers, and be a part of a movement that values truth and connection. It’s more than a film screening; it’s an opportunity to make a difference.

The screening takes place on Saturday, November 3rd at 6:00 PM at Cottonwood Cinema Chilliwack.

Details about the screening and our involvement will be shared on our social media channels, so be sure to follow along for updates.

Thank you for being part of our journey to support storytelling and positive change. We can’t wait to see you at CIFF, where stories ignite conversations and, hopefully, a better understanding of the world we share.

If you live in Chilliwack we encourage you to attend the screening of Sugarcane or any of the other incredible films and shorts screening at CIFF this year. You can find the full list of filmed here
