As soon as you brew this coffee you'll probably notice the rich, toasted almond aroma. Toffee and chocolate dominate this wonderful, organic certified coffee, but it has a very balanced profile with just the tiniest, mostly unnoticeable amount of acidity to bring it all together. It is also a "washed" coffee resulting in a clean, balanced flavour.
It reminds us a bit of almond roca with the toasty, nutty almond, rich chocolate and sweet toffee. It's a pretty classic cup of whole bean coffee, but it's not so dark that it tastes bitter or burned. This one would be a hit with dark and medium roast lovers alike! It's a staple on our rotating filter coffee offering at our Chilliwack café.
It's also special to us because it's the first coffee we have sourced from our new pals at Ally Coffee!
Ecoterra Nariño Association, also known as La Jacoba, works with 100 coffee producing families in the Nariño Department of Colombia. These families have farms averaging 2 hectares in size throughout many municipalities in the department, including La Unión, Cartago, San Lorenzo, Colón Génova, Arboleda and San Pedro Cartago.
La Jacoba's objective is to expand the supply of organic certified coffee from Colombia, including from some of the country's best known regions like Nariño. The project is designed to make positive environmental, social, and economic impacts by offering premiums for certified Organic coffees, investing in reforestation, offering training in environmentally-friendly agricultural practices, and improving the infrastructure of coffee production and housing for members.
Nariño is one of Colombia’s 32 Departments. It shares a southern border with Ecuador and is home to thousands of smallholder coffee producing families. Colombia’s three ranges of Andean mountains converge in Nariño, presenting ideal altitudes and fertile soil for high grown Arabica production.
Nariño’s geography and proximity to coastal and land borders have historically transformed it into a corridor for illicit trade routes, resulting in unwarranted violence against residents of remote mountain farms. Today, thanks to the particularly resilient and fearless spirit of Nariño’s farmers, the small region is a respected nucleus of coffee innovation.
Brandon visited Colombia last February year and it has given all of us here at SG a newfound appreciation for Colombian coffee. We recently cupped this one and even the light-roast drinkers appreciated the full, dynamic flavour profile of this delightful coffee. We hope you’ll love it too!

We recommend this for an easy-drinking, classic filter coffee. It can also make a great, full-bodied espresso.
