Oh boy, do we LOVE this coffee.

We originally sourced this for our annual Camp Smoking Gun event, but we loved it so much we brought some more in to release as this limited edition specialty coffee.

Why do we love it so much? Well, the coffee itself is super comforting. Rwandan coffees are known for their buttery sweetness and this one has that in spades. The sweetness comes across as fig-like, nice and rich. The mouthfeel has a nice buttery quality. It's smooth and satisfying. That's why we're calling it "coffee cake" - sweet brown sugar, buttery mouthfeel, and of course that classic coffee flavour.

We also love this coffee because it's 100% Bourbon varietal. Bourbon is one of the heritage varietals meaning it's one of the first coffee cultivars and a lot of the newer varieties are it's offspring, so to speak. Unfortunately, this means it's not as resistant to disease and climate conditions as newer varietals. That makes bourbon varietals a little more scarce and special. There wasn't a lot of this available, so we scooped up as much as we could.

There's also a great story behind the co-op that produces this bean. Nyampinga Women’s Cooperative is named for the Kinyarwanda word that means “beautiful women, both inside and out”. The group was founded in 2013 when the women came together to access agronomic training and quality control. Nyampinga cooperative operates its own washing station in South Rwanda where member’s coffee is processed with the utmost care to preserve the region’s high-quality coffee potential. To top all this off, the co-op is certified organic.

After harvest, the coffee cherries were hand-picked and mechanically de-pulped then dried on parchment-lined raised beds, hand-turned regularly for even drying. This helps provide a very balanced cup and ensures that only the finest beans found their way into your bag.

We're thrilled to release this coffee and we hope you enjoy it too! Get your hands on it while you can - we only have a VERY limited amount available.
