One of Our Favourite Whole Bean Coffees from Guatemala is Back!

One of Our Favourite Whole Bean Coffees from Guatemala is Back!

Sweet, toasty and just a little bit fruity! You gotta love ANYTHING with that description and we sure do love this year's crop from Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.

We had this profile last Winter and we were very excited to bring it back for another year. It's the definition of "the perfect winter coffee." It's nice and sweet, a little bit grapefruit-y, and it has a nice nuttiness that shines through. It's like drinking the milk after you have a bowl of fruit loops, except you used Ovaltine instead of regular milk. Obscure reference? Maybe.

It's also an organic certified coffee, so there's that!

The roast level is "light-medium." It's not quite as medium as Show Pony, but it's not quite as light as Yirgacheffe. It's proven to be a crowd-pleaser though and it really satisfies that desire for something comforting and familiar, but not boring.

Guatemalan coffee in general is known for its honey-like sweetness and milk chocolatey base. The signature nuttiness is an adored trait as well and this bean expresses it with notes of toasted malt - kind of like the nuttiness in dark beers. Or, the aroma when you bake oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Yeah, it's legit.

You can read a bit more about it or order some for yourself here. We'll also have it on our filter coffee menu this winter in our Chilliwack cafe, if you want to give it a try!

As we mentioned, we first offered this bean last year and you can read all about the people behind the community cooperative here
